Erik and Helen Sprohge Studio Visit

IMG_5078 IMG_0710IMG_5072 IMG_5069We were so fortunate today when Erik and Helen Sprohge welcomed my friend Beverly Aderholt and me into their beautiful home and art studio.

To be able to see many of Erik’s paintings throughout their home and studio made obvious the clear and consistent way Erik makes his unique marks with all kinds of art media, and he has been doing so for decades.  He has mastered color, landscape and figure drawing to express his own, and at times humorous, perspective of life.

A fascinating aspect of his work is Erik’s delightful ability to depict rich characters, whether a group dancing wildly or a cowboy gazing off into a beautiful landscape.  Erik’s figures are truly characters with a story, reminiscent of the figures of artist Honoré Daumier. And like Daumier, they always evoke a smile.

Ruby Allen Studio Visit

What a treat yesterday when my friend Susan Blanchard and I visited the marvelous watermedia artist and friend Ruby Allen in her studio.  Ruby was a gracious host to be so generous with her time.  What an inspiration!

Much to my surprise, when we went to lunch, what should we discover at the entrance to the Hope Village Tea Room in Friendswood, TX?  MY COW!  So many years ago, I painted dog portraits onto this cow for a Houston fundraiser and it was great fun to see it once again!
